Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Gospel Music Family and Associates
A tragic plane crash has resulted in the loss of seven lives, including members of the renowned gospel family, The Nelons. The group was en route to Alaska to join the Gaither Homecoming Cruise when the accident occurred. Among those who perished were Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber, and son-in-law Nathan Kistler. Also among the victims were Melanie Hodges, a close family associate, and Larry Haynie, the pilot, along with his wife Melissa.
A Heartfelt Response
Autumn Nelon Streetman, the sole surviving member who was not on the plane, has issued a heartfelt statement following the tragedy.
“In the wake of the devastating plane crash that took the lives of my parents, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, my sister Amber, brother-in-law Nathan, and our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie, I want to express our deep appreciation for the overwhelming support we’ve received,” Autumn said. She conveyed her gratitude for the prayers and support directed towards her family, including her husband Jamie, their unborn son, and Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark.
The Incident and Investigation
Footage taken shortly before the crash shows Jason and his family, along with the pilot, smiling and conversing on a Nebraska runway. The Pilatus PC-12/47E, owned by Haynie Enterprises, crashed in Wyoming, sparking a wildfire. Emergency crews responded swiftly, but unfortunately, there were no survivors. The Wyoming sheriff’s office has confirmed the fatalities.
The National Transportation Safety Board is set to investigate the cause of the accident.
A Lasting Legacy
The Nelons, inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016, were celebrated for their significant contributions to gospel music. Their legacy includes beloved songs such as “I Shall Not Be Moved,” “Come Morning,” and “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown.” They were also nominated for three Grammy Awards during their illustrious career.
